We are fortunate to have a wide selection of wood from the many fallen trees found on our property. The types of woods that can be found here range from the ubiquitous oaks, such as from the red oak and white oak trees to the more intriguing woods such as black walnut and sweet gum. Of course, there is always the familiar wood found from the abundant hickory, maple, and ash trees.
It is a long and involved process to create a bowl from the logs of trees. There are many steps that need to be taken in the process. These steps range from rough cutting the bowl blanks from the logs to drying the wood (which can take years in some cases) to turning the bowls on a lathe (sometimes a couple times) and then sanding and applying the finishing oils and waxes on the finished work.
